Established in 1988
Hushe Welfare and Development Organization (HWDO) is a not for profit organization setup under the section 42 of companies ordinance 1984, established in 2005 for welfare and development of Hushe valley Tehsil Mashbrum District Ghanche of Gilgit-Baltistan. The 3050 meters high Hushe village lies in the heart of Karakoram and in lap of Mashabrum that forms one of the remotest mountain communities in the world. Due to remoteness, access to basic services are either scarce or inadequate. Besides its rich resources the 914 natives are living a hard life due to natural severity and negligence by concerned bodies.
Participatory Approach
Education
From the first day, HWDO focused on education as core of sustainability of all our developmental activities. Prior to our intervention, the situation was worsening.
Financial Assistance
Hushe WDO provide financial assistance to other community school whose are in financial crisis for bearing their expenses.
Hostel
The organization has constructed a Hostel building in Skardu situated to the adjacent to the public school & college a well reputed educational institution in Skardu.
Medical Camp
Organizing medical camps for poor patients on their doorsteps. Foreign Doctors especially from Spain visiting for a weak for serving medical camp.
Couching center
HWDO had a deliberation to transform these long vacations in a fruitful time for students and now running the free coaching centers in winter season.
Environmental Conservation
For environmental conservation, the NGO mobilize local people to ensure the sustainable uses of natural resources like cutting of natural forest and wildlife.
Cultural Heritage Centre
Initially for establishment of this center GB environmental protection agency provided financial assistance. The basic aim of this center is to increase awareness with in community the importance of preservation of cultural heritage and also make aware the visitors, trekkers, expeditors and other outfitter about the culture of the area. A lot of foreign and domestic visitors visit this center every year.
